Hradcany

Hradcany is the castle district of Prague, a cadastral area on the ridge above Mala Strana holding Prague Castle, the Loreta and the Strahov Monastery.

Type
cadastral area
Status
An official administrative unit with a defined boundary.

Also known as Hradčany, Castle District.

Hradcany is a cadastral area and was a separate town until 1784. Prague Castle stands within it, which is why the castle is not in Mala Strana despite being immediately above it - a distinction visitors routinely miss.
