Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay

Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay is a performing arts centre on Marina Bay in Singapore, opened in 2002, containing a concert hall and theatre beneath two shaded glazed domes.

Why it matters

The aluminium shading on the domes exists because the original clear-glass scheme would have made the interiors unusable in an equatorial climate; the much-discussed appearance is a consequence of that fix.
