Casa Batllo
Casa Batllo is a remodelled apartment building on Passeig de Gracia in Barcelona's Eixample district, reworked by Antoni Gaudi between 1904 and 1906. It is open to visitors and forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage inscription covering Gaudi's work.
Also known as Casa Batlló.

Why it matters
The building is the clearest surviving demonstration of Gaudi treating an existing structure as raw material: the facade, light well and roofline were all imposed on a conventional 1877 block rather than designed from nothing.

Good for
- Architecture & design — A Gaudi remodelling that can be read from the pavement and from inside, on a street that carries several other modernista facades within a few hundred metres.
