Mercat de Santa Caterina
Mercat de Santa Caterina is a municipal market in Barcelona's Ciutat Vella, rebuilt between 1997 and 2005 by Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue behind the retained walls of the 1848 hall.
Why it matters
The undulating tiled roof is the most-photographed part, but the more interesting decision was keeping the original perimeter walls and the archaeological remains of the convent beneath.
